Jewell Lake is on the edge of the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area (CCSRA). Within the CCSRA there are 21 lakes, six are natural and 15 are former iron ore mines and making them Minnesota's newest lakes!
The depth of the mine pit lakes range from 100 - 525 feet all surrounded by 25 miles of undeveloped shoreline. With water clarity of up to 90 feet and submerged structures, these former iron ore mines are a sought-after haven for fishing, SCUBA diving, boating and water sports.
